What is Radon Mitigation?Radon mitigation is the process of redirecting the majority of the Radon Gas that is entering the property, to the outside of the property, at the proper EPA suggested height and above the gutter line of the structure. It is important to note that this process redirects the radon BEFORE it enters the structure, rather than after it is already in the home or commercial building. The most common way of performing this radon mitigation process is called sub slab depressurization. Depending on the project and the setup of the property, this process is generally done by coring into the foundation of the structure, sealing proper PVC pipe to this entrance, and then using a special, radon mitigation fan to pull the gas from beneath the foundation and finally dispersing this gas outside of the structure. It is also important to understand that some homes have a submersible sump pump and a drainage system beneath the home while other, older homes generally do not. This effects the labor of the radon mitigation process as well as some extra supplies or products potentially needed, and in turn may increase the cost of radon mitigation overall. Furthermore, homes with dirt or gravel crawlspaces generally require extra labor and expensive supplies as well and these factors can also increase the overall cost of radon mitigation substantially.

Why Radon Test in Beloit or Radon Test in Janesville?Nearly every county in Wisconsin has high levels of radon gas consistently detected. However, the greater Madison area as well as Beloit, Janesville and portions of Walworth County consistently have some of the higher levels of radon gas in the state. It is important to test for radon in Beloit and Janesville because these high levels can drastically effect your health as well as the value of your home or property. There are two main ways to test for or detect radon gas. The first radon test is called a continuous monitor radon test. This radon test is shown in the picture below. The monitor is placed at the lowest, living level of the home, under closed conditions, for a set period of time (generally 48 hours). This radon monitor will calculate the radon levels in the home each hour and at the end, provide an average radon level over that 24 hour period. This is by far our most popular radon test and is the type of test that is generally used in most real estate transactions. We also offer an at home charcoal radon test. This radon test is very accurate but generally takes a longer time to process the radon test results and is therefore not used in real estate transactions or other time sensitive situations.

Radon Mitigation System Cost
Affordable Radon Mitigation in BeloitThe cost of a Radon Mitigation System will vary quite a bit from company to company. A radon mitigation contractor is similar to many other construction contractors in that you will typically find varying degrees of professionalism. This aspect of professionalism, combined with overall workmanship, is one of the most influential factors in determining a radon mitigation system's cost. Professional radon contractors will be licensed, insured and in many cases bonded. This is extremely important for obvious reasons, but even more important when it comes to radon mitigation because radon mitigation services are generally needed during real-estate transactions. Because insurance and licensing have costs associated, these professional contractors will generally cost a bit more. This extra money, however, will be well spent and will in many cases save you money or other headaches later.
Being Cheap is ExpensiveA large part of our radon mitigation business is fixing other radon mitigation companies poor installations. This can get very costly, and in many cases, can get close to paying for two systems when things are all said and done. The average radon mitigation cost will be between $800 and $1,200. If you have a crawlspace in your basement, or other extenuating circumstances, you may be looking at a bit more. However, if you are speaking to a radon mitigation professional that comes in quite a bit less expensive than that, it should definitely raise some red flags. Use the column to the right to ask different questions and determine if the radon mitigation company is cutting corners. In many cases, you will find they are using poorly designed fans, doing their own electrical work, or not sealing a gravel or dirt crawlspace, etc. Remember, being cheap is expensive. It is better to pay a little more now, than a whole lot later. It is just simply not normal or plausible to offer the best price, the best service and the best product or workmanship all at the same time. You will almost always be sacrificing one of those aspects to achieve the other. Even if you are selling your home, it is important to determine which aspects are most important to you. Improper installation, or the negative effects of improper installation like mold, fires, or other property damage could potentially result in liability on the selling homeowner if the seller chose or vetted the hired mitigation company.
