Radon mitigation in Green Bay is extremely important because nearly every area of Wisconsin is at risk for elevated levels of radon gas within occupied dwellings.  What is radon mitigation?  Radon mitigation is the process of removing radon soil gas from beneath the slab or outside of the foundation of the structure before it can enter the structure in high concentrations.  Remediation of radon through a proper radon mitigation system is extremely important because radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers and #2 cause of lung cancer overall.  The EPA estimates that nearly 21,000 people die each year from radon related lung cancer.  Therefore, having a radon mitigation system in Green Bay may not only protect your home value but it may also save your life and the life of those important to you.

Radon Mitigation System

Radon mitigation systems near Green Bay, WI are extremely important to install properly because of both construction considerations and weather variations.  The most common way to install a radon mitigation system is to depressurize the basement slab.  Since radon gas is a soil gas, by creating negative pressure under the slab, we can effectively draw the radon gas from beneath it.  The most common ways to create sub-slab depressurization are drain-tile depressurization, sump-pit depressurization, block-wall depressurization and suction-pit depressurization.  Most homes that have drain-tile systems can be effectively mitigated by depressurizing the drain-tile and drawing the radon from the drainage system itself, as well as the surrounding soil.  In some cases, it may make sense to install the system and draw the gas from within the sump crock.  However, we have found it is generally more effective to tap into the drain-tile near by the sump which also makes things easier for the homeowner if they need to service the sump pump itself.  Whichever way the depressurization is preformed, it is important to seal down the sump crock and we do so using a clear cover for maximum visibility.

Radon Mitigation Cost

Radon mitigation cost can vary from state to state, vendor to vendor and house to house.  With that being said, it is very tough to come up with a general radon mitigation price or cost that is standard across the board.  However, it is pretty safe to say that most radon mitigation issues can be handled for between $800 and $1,200, give or take.  Furthermore, any cost significantly less or significantly more should raise some red flags.  In some situations, a home with a very large dirt crawlspace or multiple radon collection points may be on the higher end or above that $1,200 mark, while systems involving drain-tile depressurization may be on the lower end of that range.  Other variables that could effect the cost of a radon mitigation system would be electrical costs to properly power the radon fan, replacement of a pedestal-style sump pump to a submersible-style sump pump, fan upgrades dependent on the soil consistency under the home and sealing of basement "weeping-wall" systems that may create backdrafting issues on basement appliances.  For an accurate quote on services specific to your home or commercial property, we can offer a quote one of two ways:  over the phone or in person, depending on which is most comfortable for you and your situation!

Green Bay Radon Abatement

Many words and phrases are used to describe reducing radon levels in homes and commercial properties.  Some refer to it as radon abatement, radon removal, radon reduction, radon remediation or radon mitigation.  Most commonly this process is known as radon mitigation.  Radon mitigation has many positive outcomes.  Of course, radon mitigation reduces the levels of radon gas in the home or commercial structure.  Since radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers this is of course a great byproduct of a radon mitigation system.  Additionally, radon mitigation systems drastically remove the amount of moisture beneath the slab and foundation.  It is estimated that radon mitigation systems pull more than 2 tons of moisture from beneath the slab each and every year.  With that being said, many have found that their radon mitigation system, which is very energy efficient, allows them to run their basement dehumidifier much less or not at all.  This is of course positive for many reasons.  The first reason is dehumidifiers can be very costly when run continuously.  In fact, they can be as much as 3 times less energy efficient than a radon mitigation system.  Furthermore, the constant, manual removal of water and cleaning of the filter can become a nuisance.  Lastly, dehumidifiers are really just a band-aid on the real problem.  If your basement is extremely damp and humid, a dehumidifier is removing the moisture once it has already entered the living space.  With a radon mitigation system, we are able to remove the moisture underneath the slab before it ever enters the living space.  In conclusion, radon mitigation systems not only help with reducing radon levels but also as moisture reduction systems.  The important thing to remember is even when they are installed as moisture reduction systems they should be installed to proper radon mitigation standards.  This will help ensure their are no issues during future real estate transactions.  For more information on radon mitigation or moisture reduction, call today!
